Dutch Lady moves for Martin Palmer

For those following the progress of founder member Martin Palmer and his wife Pauline with their 100 year old Dutch Barge, "Vrouwe Alberdina", after a year in the old sand dock at the Cumberland Basin, Bristol she is finally on the move.

Vrouwe Alberdina

After open heart surgery and a new pacemaker (rebuilt engine and complete re-wire) the boat left her berth in beautiful weather on Sunday 14th June 2009 and took an extremely uneventful meander through the heart of Bristol and up the Avon to The Chequers Inn at Hanham where she will remain for a while for final beautification and checkover prior to Martin and Pauline heading east along the river then the Kennett & Avon canal and the Thames to London.

So if you want to see the new addition to the Palmer family pop along to Hanham and take a look (she's the large red boat, stern on to the end of the pontoon, moored up to two stout trees) , I'm sure they will give guided tours if they are in residence (and they do a mean pint of real ale, cider or Guinness in the Lock & Weir pub next door to the Chequers which is more of a food pub).
